A Fitting Name For An Outfit

I'll admit that when I first heard Outfit, I didn't get too excited.

Nevertheless, for me they've become one of the best bands to emerge this year and the mighty Two Islands was the starting point for much of this. The track, geared up to be put out on September 12, is seemingly custom made to be listened to on repeat and seeped into one's brain deliciously. It is a six-minute song that starts off with guitar fuzz before evolving into a groove that is gradually mutating into a punk-funk hybrid.

With comparisons to Wild Beasts, The XX and New Order, the five-piece are able to shoehorn these various sounds together while firmly stamping their own imprint on to them.

Despite the band's press biog is full of light-hearted mis-information, not giving a thing away, and they have only played roughly a dozen gigs, this "outfit" is already receiving wide attention. I handed it to you on a plate and now you only have to open your ears and leave you dazzled. I'll say no more, listen below. I think you'll agree it's rather lovely indeed.

BTW, don't miss their fun website. Roll your mouse over the youtube videos and it becomes some sort of fever nightmares of ridiculousness.

Mixing Names & Nationalities

The final result of combining wicked chill band names such as Crystal Castles and Foo Fighters is...

Whoah, folks! I had the opportunity to see them live a few months ago and they're really out of this world! This is a picture I took at the gig. Sorry if it's not very good but I'm looking to upgrade my lens in hopes that I can get clearer shots from a further distance. So I would like to take this opportunity to leave a message just in case someone wants to sell their lens for a Nikon camera at rock-bottom price, haha.

I leave you with one of my favorite songs from the Anglo-Spanish outfit. Yep, you read well, they've been working off the educated assumption that they're a Spanish band, despite the fact three main guys in the group are an Englishman and an American. Nevertheless, what makes them describe themselves as Spaniards is the way they're influenced very heavily by the Basque folk music and culture of northern Spain. The band have taken that, mashed it together with electronica and even hardcore punk, and crafted a really exciting, very danceable albums. Enjoy it!

Similarities

Despite there was nothing to predict that the folk would become one of the new standars on the Spanish Indie scene, these gawjus singer-songwriters were considered to be three of the greatest revelations.

They all look alike: same music style, common latest fashion trends, identical shy sweetness on stage and totally similar music launches on Myspace. I might even think there's really only one instead of three different birds had it not been for I know every album by heart. But yeah, I've seen all of 'em in concert several times and they're a dead ringer for each other... Don't you believe it? Alrite, judge for yourself!

Heavenly Music

Just when you thought you had seen everything on covers, Kolacny Brothers and Scala, a Belgian female choir who have sung a wide range of popular music in their fifteen years working together, came to your ears. The choir are probably most well-known for their great version of Radiohead's Creep, which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie The Social Network.

In the beginning, back in the 90's began with only 18 girls and are now gathered around 230 young people between 16 and 26. With ten albums to their backs, the last one, released in March this year, collects their best songs. Some of them are:

Creep (Radiohead Cover)

Heartbeats (Jose Gonzalez Cover)

With Or Without You (U2 Cover)

Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), I Think I'm Paranoid (Garbage), Champagne Supernova (Oasis), Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana), Ironic (Alanis Morissette), Clandestino (Manu Chao), Viva La Vida (Coldplay), Cumpleaños Total (Los Planetas) and many more have been re-emerged in this unique style that manages to catch those who listen! Find yours online. I've seen them live twice and I really felt like I just touched heaven.
